Stronger representation for Chatham-Kent Ward 7

Welcome to the official campaign platform for King For Council Ward 7. Explore my municipal platform, stay informed on key local issues, and join me in building a vibrant, thriving community for Chatham-Kent. A new way forward!

Dedicated to serving the residents of Ward 7

Chatham-Kent is at a pivotal moment, and Ward 7 deserves active, transparent, and accountable leadership on municipal council. This platform serves as a central hub for residents to access clear information on local governance, upcoming public events, and key community updates.

My commitment is rooted in listening to neighborhood voices, supporting municipal economic growth, arts and culture and enhancing local infrastructure. Together, we can ensure Ward 7, and our municipality remains a prosperous and welcoming place to live, work, and raise a family.

Core platform pillars

Local priorities for Ward 7 include a new strategy for a compassionate structured approach to ending encampments and restoring safety and the health and well being of our community.

We can do better and we will. Compassion requires structure and I will recommend that an immediate coordination of services currently entrenched in this crisis, be organized to better assist those in need and provide relief to the ongoing situation. In a crisis we must act, the time for action is now.

I would recommend the use of vacant industrial space be used to set up a triage shelter to allow the dismantling of encampments and with combined services in one location, individuals can be treated and assessed. The unhoused would have cots, washrooms, and meals and given access to more progressive ways of moving towards a better life with direct access to supports.

Economic growth

We need to continue the pursuit of investment in our community that delivers good paying jobs. One key area is agriculture which has many opportunities such as greenhouse expansion, food production, canning facilities and on-farm diversified uses. I believe agritourism could also be a key economic driver and an asset to our tax base.

Fostering business investment

Supporting local entrepreneurs and encouraging sustainable municipal economic development across Ward 7 and the municipality.

Modernizing roads and services

Investing in reliable roads, wastewater management, and essential community facilities is a must in order to attract investment. Environmental policies, land use planning, rural infrastructure and affordable energy will be valued assets.

Safe and vibrant neighborhoods

Community safety

As a recent graduate of the CKPS Citizens Police Academy and founder of the Queen Street Village Community Watch group I take the safety of our communities very serious. The health and well being of our citizens is paramount and always first, I will ensure that taxpayers voices are the loudest in the room.

Working closely with local front line services and community partners to enhance public safety.

Accountable municipal spending

Ensuring tax dollars are spent efficiently with full transparency and public accountability. We, as taxpayers, can no longer sustain the deep dive into the public purse to cover expenses. New sources of revenue for the municipality is of the utmost importance and should be pursued as such.

Arts and Culture

I am passionate about art and will always ensure that current municipal funding is secured. I would invite corporate sponsorship, private donations, cultural grants, and ask that we waive facility rental fees for non-profit community art programs. An expansion of tourism promotion to showcase events such as the Artists Studio Tour, art in the park/boulevard, and CanJam to create destination tours. Assistance from municipal resources to help with promotion materials, and digital assistance for online marketing.

I would like to see the establishment of an official Chatham Kent Film Board to provide assistance with permits and scouting for location shoots to attract local and outside film makers in the production of movies, documentaries and other cinematic endeavors.

We have a unique and diverse art community here and we need to ensure it has the tools, to not only be sustainable but inviting to the world. Music, dance, painting, sculpting and the pursuit of all types of art is paramount.

Community engagement

Connecting with residents

Being a councillor for me, means being connected and available to the taxpayers we serve. I will be accessible digitally or in person by staying connected with neighborhood organizations, meetings or coffee. I'm not interested in a side hustle, I'm here to ensure your voices are heard and it will be my full time job.

Public town halls

A great way to stay engaged and focused on agenda items with documentation and clear consise timelines.

Open discussion forums

Participate in regular community meetings to share your views on local council decisions.

Access regular newsletters and reports on council meetings and local development decisions.

Youth & senior initiatives

Engagement for our youth is of the utmost importance for the viability of our municipality. We need stronger retention and more informative discussions regarding voting processes.

Seniors are the very backbone of our community and deserve to be treated as such with access to affordable housing, health care, and the right to live peacefully with respect. With everything moving into the digital age we should not force seniors to be subjected to using online platforms as their only options for information. More accessible solutions are required to provide assistance to them for the needs they require.

Advocating for programs that support our youth and senior residents in Chatham-Kent.

Environmental stewardship

The battle we face against York 1 should never deter citizens from continuing to fight relentlessly against such tyrants that threaten to tarnish our lands and pollute our waterways. Make it known to all levels of government this is not acceptable and we will not tolerate this type of destruction of our municipality.

Protecting local assets

Promoting sustainable practices to safeguard Chatham-Kent's natural environment and parks.

A clear vision for municipal leadership

Effective municipal government starts with listening. By engaging directly with homeowners, local business owners, and community advocate groups in Ward 7, we are building a practical, forward-looking strategy for Chatham-Kent.

"It is encouraging to see such dedicated focus on economic growth and community safety for our families."
